Hamster Love

Hamsters are one of my passions. Here is the hamster that started my blog, Pookie.

If you are interested in hamsters like I am then you will find this page fascinating. You need to have a love of cute furry little animals, or at least a tolerance to read on.

When I was young, my family assumed the care of a needy hamster named “Fritz.” My mother, being a farm girl, saw every rodent as vermin and was wary of the beady eyed begger. Fritz melted her heart in stages, he became her morning companion while she made our breakfast and waited patiently for treats. Fritz II escaped one night and greeted her early in the morning as she was getting ready for work with the same patient look on his face. I give my mom credit for not screaming or smacking him, she just scooped him up and brought him to the kitchen for his snack and placed him back in the cage while we all slept.

Over the years hamsters have come into my heart and home, including real hamsters from the pet shop or SPCA and in the form of hamster keepsakes of all sorts. Greeting cards, Zhu Zhu pets, calendars and other toys have crept into my surroundings.

Their little paws and cute faces always welcome.  Even when they steal my cheese and crackers!
