Grey Cup countdown

November 17, 2008
It is that time of year again, the leaves are falling around us here in the lower mainland of British Columbia and snow is falling in the rest of the country.  That means it is time for Grey Cup!  Hooray!  Unfortunately, this year the Lions are not representing the west.  This weekend the teams were settled in the Eastern and Western semi finals, with Montreal and Calgary rising to the top.  The game will be played at the Big "O" in Montreal, so the fans there should go really nuts, what with their home team in the big match.
After the Eastern game with Montreal beating Edmonton, the trophy was presented to the Alouettes, and the players shook hands with the officials in congratulations but did not touch the trophy.  After the Western final, the Calgary players celebrated with cheers and hoisted their divisional trophy above their heads.  We will have to see what becomes of things, as many of you may know the sporting tradition of superstition is very strong, and it is very bad luck for a team that celebrates with their divisional trophy.  Let’s just say that I am not making any predictions on the outcome of this game.
The Grey Cup will be played on Sunday November 23rd at 3pm Pacific and will be carried on TSN and on giant screens in the Grey Cup village if you are in Montreal and can’t get tickets.
