Make Mukmuk a real mascot!

June 13, 2008
  As most of you know, the 2010 winter Olympic games are going to be held in Vancouver, British Columbia.  Every Olympic games have mascots, and this one is no exception, with 3 likeable characters named Quatchi, Miga and Sumi.  There is something new this time around, the mascots have a “sidekick” named Mukmuk.  He has not been made into toys or pins, or a mascot outfit.  He is a loveable little marmot that no one has been able to hug!  There has been many people who want to see Mukmuk have a more important role, there is even a Facebook group that wants to make him an official mascot.  I have written a couple of times to VANOC (the Vancouver Olympic games organizing committee) to request that they make a Mukmuk collectable pin.  They replied;

Thank you for your interest in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic
Winter Games.
We are very pleased and excited to announce Miga, Quatchi and Sumi as
the official mascots of the Vancouver 2010 Games. Mukmuk – a rare marmot
unique to the mountains of Vancouver Island – is a friend who enjoys
surprising Miga, Quatchi, and Sumi by popping up, on occasion, to share
in the spirit and fun of the Games.

People across Canada and around the world can meet the mascots at
www.vancouver2010.com/mascot. The Vancouver 2010 Games are the first
Olympic/Paralympic Games to have an official sidekick to the mascots. At
this time, we do not have plans to make a Mukmuk stuffed animal.

Thanks again,

  Today I read an article at their website Vancouver 2010 Mascots article that makes it apparent that the masses love Mukmuk.

  Mukmuk has proven so popular that the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) is exploring ways to respond to the strong public interest as part of the celebration of the mascot’s first birthday on November 27.

  Go Mukmuk, Go!
