What happened to the green?

December 4, 2005
A few years ago I was living in the East Kooteneys, that is in the lower southeast of British Columbia.  One winter while I lived there we had so much snow that people had to go on top of buildings to shovel the snow off or the weight of all the snow would likely break through the roof.  There was so much snow that people on the first floor could barely see out their windows.  Piles of snow became so high along the roads it looked like people had castle walls in front of their homes.  A car left in the Canadian Tire parking lot one night was buried under the snow that the plows were moving that it wasn’t seen until March.   I forgot what the color green looked like.

The last few days we have been getting snow here in the Vancouver area.  Children are sledding, building snowmen, and throwing snowballs.  I even saw one person shovelling his lawn.  But when all is said and done, I am looking forward to the rain coming back so that I can walk around in my duck shoes and umbrella and look at the green grass that is hiding underneath all that snow.
