Summer travels

July 24, 2005
    If you were a kid growing up on the prairies, you will probably remember the most boring part of your life as the summer road trip. Yes, those endless hours in the back seat before the days of dvd’s and gameboys.   I will admit that with a sibling it did have some interesting moments, mostly comprising of yelling, "mom, he’s on my side!" and seeing how fast you can eat the chips out of the bag so that you get more then your share.  I think our absolute low point was imitating cows.
   In preparation for a reprise of the summer road trip, I have found some other suggestions of things to do when you are bored, courtesy of
  Here are a few examples;
*Things you can do with absolutely nothing
  • Push your eyes for interesting light show (amusement potential: 1-5 minutes)

  See a variety of blobs, stars and flashes.  Try to make out things your subconscious is trying to send as a message.  Can you control what you see by pressing different areas with different forces?  Would it be possible to somehow see the same effects on TV?

  • Try to not think about polar bears (amusement potential 1-5 minutes)

  This is especially hard, because by trying too much, you remember what you were trying to avoid thinking of.  If you try too little, you end up thinking about polar bears anyway.

  Just doing the little I can for public service.
